Head out on this 4 day hiking trip which was listed as one of the top 20 hikes for National Geographic! Explore Iceland's capital city of Reykjavik before and after your guided hike. Hike highlights include the geothermal wonderland, Landmannalaugar, which is the beginning of the Laugavegur trail. Hike through the highlands of Iceland, towards the south. The hike portion of your trip ends in Thorsmork Valley.
End your adventure with a trip to the Secret Lagoon hot springs for some relaxation.

Day 1: Arrival Reykjavik

Independent arrival to Keflavik airport. Transfer to downtown Reykjavik by airport bus. Check into your hotel. Rest of the day free to explore the city.

Day 2:  Reykjavik - Landmannalaugar - Hrafntinnusker 

After an early breakfast meet your group at 7 a.m. in front of the Tourist Information Center at Reykjavik City Hall on Vonarstraeti.  Your group will drive straight to Landmannalaugar.  Set out on your hike as soon as you get there. Through the geothermal landscape, your group will set aim for Hrafntinnusker, the obsidian desert the place takes its name after, and spend the first night. Today you can expect to come across a magnificent geothermal scenario, including Storihver hot spring, and rhyolite mountains. Spend the night in a hut in Hrafntinnusker.

Driving time: 3-4 hrs. Distance: 12 km (7.5 mi). Walking time: 4-5 hrs. Ascent: 470 m (1540′).

Day 3: Hrafntinnusker- Alftavatn 

Leave the hut after breakfast and continue on the Laugavegur trail. Today, walk along Mt. Reykjafjoll and into the spectacular Jokultungur area. Here the geothermal activity has turned the ravines red and yellow. From the top of Jokultungur, have a great view over Lake Alftavatn and Fjallabak. Before reaching Alftavatn where you will be spending the night, cross the first unbridged stream we will encounter.

Distance: 12 km (7.5 mi). Walking time: 4-5 hrs. Descent: 490 m (1610′).

Day 4: Alftavatn - Emstrur

This day’s hike starts like yesterday’s ended – with a stream crossing. This part of the trail takes you through black sand deserts on our way to Emstrur. The volcano Storasula and the flat-topped Hattfell mountain make a fantastic contrast, as they rise from the desert draped in green. Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull glaciers lie ahead of you once you reach Emstrur. Take time to walk to Markarfljotsgljufur, before reaching the hut in Botnar, to admire the 200 m deep canyon. Spend the night in a green oasis at Emstrur.

Distance: 15 km (9.5 mi). Walking time: 6-7 hrs. Descent: 40 m (130′).

Day 5: Emstrur - Thorsmork Valley - Reykjavik

Leave Emstrur and continue on your way to Thorsmork. Hike within a few kilometers of the great Myrdalsjokull glacier today, where you can expect a great view of the glacier. As you descend into Almenningar the landscape changes and some trees start to appear, preparing you for the birch forest in Thorsmork. The Laugavegur trail is behind you once you reach Thorsmork. On your way to Reykjavik, get a glimpse at the majestic Seljalandsfoss waterfall, one of the most popular attractions in Iceland. Return to Reykjavik at around 9:30 pm at the Reykjavik Campsite and the City Hall on Vonarstaeti. From there taxis and local buses are available to get you to your hotel (paid locally).

Distance: 15 km (9.5 mi). Walking time: 6-7 hrs. Descent: 300 m (985′). Driving time: 3-3,5 hrs.

Day 6: Reykjavik - Hot Golden Circle (with the Secret Lagoon)- Reykjavik

After breakfast you will be picked up to head out to see the sights of the Golden Circle and a trip out to the Secret Lagoon.

Today's tour highlights include: 


Gullfoss, the golden waterfall is one of the three sights of the Golden Circle. This great waterfall attracts thousands of visitors every year and for a good reason –  According to the World of Waterfalls, it is one of the top ten best waterfalls in the world.


Here you will have the opportunity to walk among the bubbling hot springs that surround the famous Geysir, but make sure to stay within the restricted area for your own safety. Strokkur geyser is a site that you should definitely not miss, spouting water sometimes up to 40m high!

Thingvellir National Park

Thingvellir National Park a UNESCO world heritage site. Here the Icelandic history and great geological wonders come together, making the place one of Iceland‘s most interesting sites.

Secret Lagoon

The oldest swimming pool in Iceland, a natural hot pool. The locals call this the “Secret Lagoon” because it was known only to them for a long time. Now you have a chance to bathe in this outstanding pool with its magical surroundings that will surely offer great photo opportunities for you.

Faxi waterfall

A lesser known hidden gem in the waterfall flora in Iceland. Its stunning blue colors and width has captured locals hearts from the settlers' times - now it’s time for you to see it.

This day trip is 9 hours in length.
