Day 1: Arrival in Rovaniemi

Arrival in Rovaniemi on your own, where you pick up your car. Rovaniemi is the capital of Finnish Lapland, located just above the Arctic Circle, and is also known as the home of Santa Claus. Rovaniemi's prominent landmarks include the Jatkankynttila bridge with its eternal flame, the Arktikum House which rises on the bank of the Ounasjoki river, the Rovaniemi Town Hall, the library and the Lappia House which serves as a theater, concert hall and congress center. The last three buildings were designed by the famous Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto.

Day 2: Rovaniemi – Kiruna (340 km/212 miles)

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive west along E75 / 4 towards the Swedish border and Kiruna. Kiruna is Sweden’s northernmost city and is sometimes listed as the largest city in the world by area, even if most of its territory is non-urban. Just outside the center you will find unique Swedish wilderness with high mountains, dense forests and wild rivers. Kiruna has a long tradition of mining, and in 2004 a new iron ore was found just under the city center. This led to the decision of moving the entire city during the next decade!

Day 3: Kiruna – Narvik (173 km/108 miles)

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will be heading into Norway to the city of Narvik. This is a great town to explore. Visit the local fish market, the Museum Nord and learn about the history of the city of Narvik and for 2019 enjoy the exhibition featuring the Sami people. If you like to hike there are over 42 km of hiking trails around the Narvik area to choose from.

Day 4:  Narvik - Senja/Mefjordvaer (200 km / 125 miles)

Breakfast at the hotel. Depart and drive west. Stop along the route at the Polar Park, home to Norway's large predators such as bears, wolves, and lynx as well as deer, moose, reindeer and muskox. Continue towards the coast and the Island of Senja, Norway's second largest Island. With breathtaking mountain ranges and adventurous roads, Senja is the hidden gem of the north.

Day 5: Explore Senja

Breakfast at the hotel. Today explore the Island of Senja. Option to add an excursion to your package today: Hiking tour, RIB boat safari, Sea Eagle safari or book a day of fishing with a guide.

Day 6:  Mefjordvaer - Tromso  (200 km/ 125 miles)

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive into Tromso today. Explore along the way. Tromso is a great place for activities. Book an optional excursion such as a: RIB boat safari, Midnight sun cruise, or a day fjord boat tour to Sommaroy.

Day 7: Tromso exploration

Day free to explore the area. Drive and explore the Lyngenfjord area. Option to book a night out in this area at a glass igloo hotel. If interested, please inquire.

Day 8: Tromso - Alta (300 km/ 187 miles)

Continue your tour towards the northwest to Alta, the biggest city in Finnmark, Norway’s largest and northernmost county. Alta is a modern coastal town with an ancient history from long before the Sami traditions. We recommend a visit to the Alta Museum which holds more than 2 500 prehistoric rock carvings that have been listed as an UNESCO world heritage site since 1985. The museum is located approximately 5 km south of Alta which makes it a perfect stop on the way from Tromso (entrance not included).

Day 9: Alta 

Breakfast at the hotel. Explore the area today of this mountain and fjord landscape. Bike or hike in the Sautso Canyon, the largest canyon in Northern Euorpe, or visit the Alta Museum. From June 15- August 15, explore the Sami Siida to experience the Lappish culture.

Day 10: Alta - Levi  (347 km/ 216 miles)

Departure from Alta. Drive south towards the Sami town Kautokeino, center of the area with the highest density of Sami people living the traditional way with reindeer farming. In Kautokeino we also recommend a visit to Juhls Silvergallery, which is a spectacular building with exhibition of silver artifacts made by local artists who will be your hosts. From Karasjok your tour will continue back into Finland.

Day 11: Levi – Rovaniemi (168km/104 miles)

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will continue in Finland as you head back into the territory of Santa Claus, heading for his ’home town’ of Rovaniemi. Drop your vehicle at the Rovaniemi airport. Departure from Rovaniemi according to your own itinerary.
